CONSUMABLES

CONSUMABLES

Commercial success for manufacturers of consumables depends upon product quality. A brand will suffer if the quality of a product fails to match its claim.

Using X-ray alongside other technologies as quality measures in the production line enables manufacturers to attain the desired product quality.

Applications:
  • Identification of undesired objects and impurities
  • Measurement of fat content
  • Sorting and classification

Automatic bone and foreign object detection are examples of X-ray integration as a measure of quality control in a production line. One X-ray sensor detects undesired objects in fish fillets, for example bones, and sends a signal to a quality control system, which directs the fillets to the correct workstation. The system is also able to detect impurities like metal and stone.

A SMART 160 kV portable X-ray system with 1.0 mm focal spot limited to 70 kV can be used for this application. The X-ray operation is controlled by the main computer connected to the SMART EVO control unit through the RS232 interface. In order to maintain 100% uptime, every portable X-ray system can be fully refurbished as part of a service agreement every third year, including change of the X-ray tube and main power modules.

The SMART EVO 160D supports combinations of low kV and high mA, which increase the flow in the production line. The combination of a 1.0 mm focal spot and the low kV allow for the accurate detection of even small remains in low-density products such as fish and poultry. External interfaces allow for remote operation and integration with the customer’s own user interface.
