THE ADVANTAGE OF USING A SMALLER FOCAL SPOT FOR NDT APPLICATIONS

"The focal spot of an X-ray tube is one of the most critical parameters when using X-rays for NDT applications. The focal spot has an influence on the geometric unsharpness, and for many applications, a smaller focal spot can result in reduced exposure time.

"Geometric unsharpness is an effect that originates from the physical size of the focal spot and has a significant influence on the image resolution and the inspector’s ability to detect discontinuities or see small details."
